An Unforgettable Tour with Our Chauffeur Services!
This week, I had the pleasure of chauffeuring a lively group of 15 Americans from Minnesota. We set off on an exciting journey from Donegal Town, exploring some of Ireland’s most fascinating and historic sites, and it was truly an adventure to remember!
Our first stop was at Creevykeel Court Tomb in County Sligo, nestled at the foothills of Tievebaun Mountain. This Neolithic tomb, dating back to around 4000 – 2500 BC, is one of the finest examples of a full-court tomb in Ireland. The group was fascinated by the history of this ancient site, with its wedge-shaped cairn and oval-shaped court, surrounded by breathtaking coastal scenery near Mullaghmore.
From there, we headed to the Mullaghmore area, which holds deep historical significance. The group was intrigued by the connection to Lord Mountbatten, who had a residence in the area and tragically lost his life here in 1979. The stunning coastal views added to the reflective atmosphere.
One of the highlights of the day was our visit to the Atlantic Sheepdogs demonstration. The Minnesotans were absolutely thrilled! Watching the skill and intelligence of the sheepdogs as they herded the sheep was nothing short of amazing. Everyone in the group couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved the dogs and the precision of their work – it was a true Irish countryside experience.
After the excitement of the sheepdogs, we made our way to Drumcliffe Churchyard in County Sligo, home to the grave of the famous Irish poet W.B. Yeats. His simple headstone bears the self-penned epitaph: “Cast a cold eye on life, on death. Horseman, pass by.” The graveyard also features a stunning High Cross dating back centuries, and is set against the dramatic backdrop of the Benbulben Mountains. It’s a place of serenity and reflection, and the group was moved by the history and poetry of the place.
We rounded off our tour with a bit of retail therapy at the Foxford Woollen Mills. Established in 1892, Foxford has a rich heritage of craftsmanship, and the beautiful woven products are timeless. Both the ladies and the gentlemen in our group enjoyed shopping for high-quality Irish wool items to take home as souvenirs of their trip.
It was a perfect day of exploring Ireland’s heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and local craftsmanship, and our guests from Minnesota were absolutely delighted.
